Celebrating Success!

Thanks to overwhelming support from staff and patients in the Trust, the wider community and our dedicated and committed supporters, the Stephanie Marks Appeal is proud to announce that it has succeeded in reaching its financial target of raising over £1 m. This means it now has sufficient funds to create the new two storey, Diabetes Resource Centre in the grounds of St. Peter's Hospital, Chertsey. The Croft has been vacated and the Capital Projects Manager has done a fantastic job of negotiating a price with the contractors within this budget without compromising the design or quality of the build. The construction work began on Monday, 19th November and the Centre is scheduled to be completed in November 2009!

Appeal Recipe Book

Ashford and St Peter's Hospital Dietetics Department, in conjunction with the Stephanie Marks Appeal, are compiling a recipe book of healthy meals called "Delicious Dining - Healthy eating for people with diabetes and their families". The profits of the recipe book, which has a foreword written by celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson, will go to the Appeal.

Copies of the recipe book will be available from Elma Phillips, Dietitian, St. Peter's Hospital (elma.phillips@asph.nhs.uk). Her telephone number is 01932 722202.

Beefy opens the Digging

Former England Captain Sir Ian Botham, HIT DIABETES FOR SIX last week, Thursday 4th September, as he launched the construction of the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Resource Centre at the entrance to St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey.

Legendary cricketer Botham, Patron of the Stephanie Marks Appeal, has ‘gone into bat’ for diabetes since the campaign was launched. The Botham family has had first hand experience of diabetes as Ian’s daughter Becky has lived with the condition since the age of 9. Speaking at the event Sir Ian said: “The new Centre will become vital as the number of people with the condition escalates at an alarming rate.”

Thanks to you, we've done it!

Planning permission for the new Stephanie Marks Resource Centre has now been granted. The building work has gone out to tender and we are in the final stages of the negotiation process with our builders. A detailed Operations Policy is being finalised and The Croft will be vacated during December enabling the construction work to create our dedicated diabetes resource centre to commence in mid-January.

Thanks to your generosity and overwhelming support we have sufficient funds to build and equip the Stephanie Marks Resource Centre. Consequently, the Board has decided to close the official part of the fundraising for the Appeal at the end of January.

We still need to raise money to fund the computer system so please continue to support us by making one last donation or let us have any outstanding funds. Stephanie Marks Christmas Cards are available to buy for 50p per pack of 10 and Pound for Life Key Rings are £1.50 each (great stocking fillers).

Please visit www.stephaniemarks.org.uk to keep an eye on our progress.

We couldn't have done it without YOU!!
