16/11/06Diabetes testing day helps raise awareness of this escalating condition
Tuesday 14th November marked World Diabetes Day - a campaign which aims each year to raise awareness of this escalating condition. The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal was thrilled to receive such positive feedback from its first 'testing day'. More than 200 million people worldwide have diabetes and many do not receive the care that they need.

14/11/06Johnson and Johnson take Diabetes Appeal closer to its goal!
Employees of Johnson & Johnson Medical Ltd Bracknell were this week delighted to hand over a Cheque for £1,175 to the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal, this year's nominated charity for National Customer Service Week.

28/09/06Chief Pharmacist joins Botham Walk
Cricket legend Ian Botham is to embark on one final walk to raise funds for teenagers and young adults with cancer, in addition to supporting The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal to which he is Patron.

Ian offered one person the opportunity to join him on the Southampton leg of his walk in support of The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal.

19/09/06Wheel of Fortune for Stephanie Marks Appeal
The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal was fortunate to receive a boost to its funds when members of the Inner Wheel Club of Feltham donated a further £750 to the Appeal. The ladies raised the money by holding a variety of events throughout the year such as ”a Bring and Buy sale” and a well attended ”Last Night of the Proms” evening.

05/09/06Diabetes Lecture for Healthcare Professionals
Diabetes has been described as a catastrophe waiting to happen which will overwhelm the NHS. Although the increase in diabetes and its complications is alarming, much of this burden could be prevented with early detection, improved delivery of care and better education on diabetes self-management. 17/08/06Mobility Scooter up for grabs in support of diabetes
The super-highway continues to raise funds in support of The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal. The online ’ebay for charity’ service which allows people buying and selling goods online to donate a percentage of the sale to charity. With amazing items and experiences to be found, from playing golf in Jersey with Ryder Cup Captain Ian Woosnam, to enjoying your first flight lessons with the BA flying club, almost £4,000 has already been raised since the Appeal logged a couple of months ago.

02/08/06Woosie and Beefy play a 4-ball in support of Diabetes
This year's Ryder Cup Captain, Ian Woosnam together with cricketing legend Ian Botham, have given two London based businessmen, Richard Moffitt and Rhys Lewis, the unique opportunity to play a 4-ball at the prestigious Royal Jersey Golf Club today (Wednesday, 2nd August)

Truly a night for the girls – Monday 11th September 2006 8pm. Bursting with energy and packed with every girlie anthem you can think of, Girls Night is unmissable. As a special charity night in aid of The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal, The New Victoria Theatre in Woking, will host ’Girls Night’ staring Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra from Only Fools and Horses), Lucy Speed (Natalie from Eastenders) and Donna Hazelton (Winner of Musicality).

Students from Tormead School, Guildford have spent the last few months collecting pennies from neighbours, friends & family. Last weekend, all the children from Lansdown Road, Jasmine, Leila, Sam, Ross, Dudley, Alex and James (aged from 3-14 years), lined the street with 10,933 pennies.

New data from the International Diabetes Federation show that more than 230 million people, almost 6% of the world’s adult population, now live with diabetes. Previous figures underestimated the diabetes threat and the total is expected to rise.

Matthew Exworth from Bisley, Surrey joined thousands of dedicated sports people at the weekend to run the London Marathon raising over £1500 for The Stephanie Marks Appeal.

21/04/06Living with Diabetes Day - We are what we eat
The GI diet is everywhere, with celebrity and media endorsements. Is "Kylie" right? Or is Glycaemic Index just the latest diet fad? Alun Willis, Head of Nutrition and Dietetics, Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust will go through the history of GI, explain how it is currently being used and answer the question "should you follow GI?". If you have diabetes; there a family history of the condition, or you simply want to know more, these and many other questions will be answered at the Living with Diabetes Day, sponsored by Sanofi-Aventis, at Sir William Perkins's School, Chertsey on Saturday, 20th May. Registration is from 09.30 am and the programme of talks, demonstrations and exhibitions addressing all aspects of diabetes will run until around 4.30 pm.

24/03/06Novo Nordisk Gives the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal a £25,000 boost
The goal of building and equipping a dedicated diabetes resource centre in the grounds of St. Peter’s hospital moved another step forward this week with the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal receiving a £25,000 donation from Novo Nordisk, the leading diabetes care company.

28/02/06Diabetes Diary Date
Diabetes is a complex, progressive condition that affects people of all ages. It occurs when the body can no longer produce insulin, or produces insufficient insulin to breakdown the glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps the glucose to enter the cells where it is used as fuel by the body. It is a series condition that left untreated can lead to visual impairment and blindness, progressive renal failure and damage to nerves particularly in the lower limbs, increased risk of stroke and coronary heart disease and reduced life expectancy. If you have diabetes, know someone with diabetes, have a family history of the condition, or simply want to know more about the condition, then take the time to find out more

The annual British 10k is staged in London. The race route passes many of London's most famous historic landmarks, and is run on some of the most famous street names in the world - starting on Piccadilly outside the legendary Hard Rock Cafe at Hyde Park Corner and finishing on Whitehall.
