Breakfast fun run, led by Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Webb, marks the start of National Diabetes Week

Olympic Golf Medalist Sarah Webb will lead a breakfast fun run on Sunday, 12 June in conjunction with David Lloyd, Brooklands to mark the start of National Diabetes Week, and raise money for The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal. The route has been specifically selected as it gives participants the chance to choose whether they want to run 3k or 5k. Supporters who are unable to run are invited to walk - everyone is welcome - young and old. This is a chance to get fit, enjoy some fresh air, have fun and support this worthwhile cause!!!

The event, organised by David Lloyds, Brooklands is open to anyone who would like to support the Appeal - you don't need to be a member of the club to participate. It is a fairly early start but it will be worth it! Doors open at 08.30, registration at 08.45 followed by a warm up led by David Lloyd's Personal Trainers.

Sarah will then signal the start of the event for runners and walkers at 09.30 a.m. Marshals from David Lloyd will be positioned around the route, which covers the area around the Weybridge club including the Heights, to guide participants, and ensure they arrive back safely at the club for a complimentary breakfast.

The Stephanie Marks Appeal aims to revolutionise diabetes care by building the first 'hub and spoke' system of diabetes care in England with a dedicated Diabetes Resource Centre in the grounds of St. Peter's Hospital, Chertsey. This main "centre of excellence" or hub will be linked by a sophisticated IT network to satellite clinics throughout the Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals catchment area.

Contact Val Marks on 01932-722330 or email val.levy@asph.nhs.uk for further details, to book your place and obtain a sponsorship form or telephone Aileen Caird, David Lloyd, Brooklands on 01932-827999. Further information about the appeal can be found at www.stephaniemarks.org.uk.

Construction of the Diabetes Resource Centre is now underway and is scheduled to be completed in the Autumn 2009.

Official fundraising for the Appeal has now stopped but donations are still welcome and needed to support patient education and materials. Please send your cheque payable to "The Stephanie Marks Appeal" to Janet Booker, Cashier, St. Peter's Hospital (telephone 01932 722334).

Thank you for your ongoing support
