27/03/07What a Quacking Good Idea! Main Menu

Carol’s gone quackers again!!!! Hersham hairdresser Carol Kavanagh first saw the little knitted chicks at a friend’s home. She loved them so much she knew they would be a winner! She was right, these cute chicks, each filled with a crème egg, literally ‘flew’ out of their nest raising £2,100 for The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal. The knitted Easter chicks are on sale for £1 each from the Stephanie Marks Shop at St. Peter’s Hospital, NOW! For more information, ring Mary on 01932 722998.

Carol would like to thank many of her clients, including Pam Phillips from Ottershaw and Eileen Keddle from Chertsey all of whom got out their knitting needles to produce chicks. “This is the third year that my merry band of happy knitters and I have supported The Appeal. If it wasn’t for them I’d have chickened out months ago,” says Carol. “We were all deeply saddened by Stephanie’s sudden death,” explains Carol. “My husband has the condition so I experience on a daily basis the devastating effect diabetes has on family life. We have to watch what he eats to make sure his sugar levels are controlled throughout each day. It is a constant worry.”

“What a quacking good idea,” says Fundraising Manager, Val Marks. “We want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all those who have knitted the 850 chicks available to sell this year. We also want to acknowledge Carol and Eileen who so generously gave up their time to come into St. Peter’s yesterday to sell the chicks. Our special thanks also go to all those people who kindly provided crème eggs, including the two Tesco Supermarkets in Addlestone and Brooklands who donated £30 in vouchers.”

Each chick contains a Cadbury’s Crème Egg and can be purchased for £1 from the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal Shop by the Duchess of Kent entrance at St. Peter’s Hospital from now until Easter. Please do call in and show your support to Carol and her team and ensure they all find a good home so we can all have a ‘cracking good Easter’. To buy a chick please contact Mary 01932 722998, or visit the Fundraising Shop, Duchess of Kent Wing. www.stephaniemarks.org.uk
