Press Releases 2010

26/04/10All welcome to celebrate opening of Stephanie Marks Diabetes Resource Centre Main Menu

Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust is opening the doors of its new Stephanie Marks Diabetes Resource Centre to the local community for an open afternoon on Thursday 20th May 2010, at St Peter's Hospital, Guildford Road, Chertsey. This will follow an official opening ceremony during the morning, being officiated by Sir Ian Botham OBE, patron of the Stephanie Marks Appeal which raised over £1 million to build the centre.

The Trust is inviting anyone with an interest in the new centre to come along to help celebrate this fantastic new resource, which opened to patients at the beginning of April. After an incredibly successful fundraising campaign supported so well by the local community and other associated health and pharmaceutical organisations, the Trust would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has made the new centre possible.

Details of the open afternoon are:

Stephanie Marks Diabetes Resource Centre
St Peter's Hospital,
Guildford Road,
Chertsey KT16 0PZ

Thursday 20th May 2010

OPEN TO ALL

Drop in anytime between 2.00 pm and 7.00 pm to take a look around the new centre and meet and talk to specialist diabetes staff from both Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust and from Surrey Community Health.

The new centre, built in memory of Stephanie Marks who died tragically from complications from Type 1 diabetes when she was only 17, will offer specialist diabetes care to a local catchment area of over 450,000 people.

Trust Medical Director, Dr Mike Baxter explains more: "The community needed a Specialist Diabetes Centre where diabetes treatment, education and research could all be delivered to the ever-growing numbers of people who need our expert help. Out of Stephanie's tragic death there has been incredible support for this project, and that will not only provide a lasting legacy in her name but will be a valuable asset for our patients of all ages, their relatives and carers. We look forward to welcoming as many people as possible during the afternoon of 20th May."
